Overview
The Kabgayi Learning and Simulation Centre (KLASc) is a pioneering training hub dedicated to advancing ophthalmic skills across Rwanda and the African Region. Established in 2024, the centre was created to address the growing need for hands-on, high quality ophthalmic training in a safe, controlled, and modern simulation environment.
KLASc integrates simulation-based learning, expert-led lectures, and step-by-step surgical skills development - equipping eye surgeons with the confidence and competence needed to deliver world-class eye care.

Our Purpose
KLASc exists to:
- Strengthen the surgical skills of young ophthalmologists.
- Provide a platform for senior ophthalmologists to refresh, update, and refine their competencies.
- Expand access to high-quality ophthalmic training in Rwanda and the East African Community.
- Bridge the skills gap in low-resource settings using structured, simulation-enhanced learning.
Today, the centre receives trainees from Rwanda and the entire EAC region, with plans to open its programs to more African countries.
Partnerships & Collaboration
KLASc is proud to be in partnership with the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCOpth) in London working together on curriculum strengthening and professional development.
The centre continues to seek collaborations with recognized global institutions to expand its reach and raise the standard of ophthalmic education in Africa.
